Jenni Honkamaa (she/her) is a dance artist from Vantaa, Finland. She works in the fields of dance and performing arts. Over the years, her journey as a dance artist has taken her across Finland—from her hometown of Vantaa to Kainuu, North Karelia, and Southwest Finland. She has embraced numerous roles: dancer, performer, choreographer, teacher, facilitator, producer, community artist, project coordinator, artistic director of the Tiloissa concept, and group leader of the Välissä contemporary dance group.

Her work experiences have ranged from leading community art projects and teaching to facilitating experimental gatherings and fostering collaboration between institutions and communities. Alongside these roles, she has consistently pursued her work as a performer and choreographer. Jenni's artistic practice is multidisciplinary, including dance, digital media, materials and visual work. Her works often find themselves at the intersection of performance and installation.

Lately, she has been particularly interested in the metamorphosis of artistic processes and using transformation and recycling as tools. Through this, she reflects on the question of sustainable art and what it could mean in her own practice. The concept of time is also relevant: how can some artworks be kept alive and present for longer?

Jenni has spent her career exploring dance as a soft form of activism. She sees dance as a way to connect, to pause, and to discover alternative ways of being. Her artistic approach is rooted in soft values—sensitivity, openness, and a willingness to embrace others' perspectives.

In recent years, she has focused on creating rhizomatic structures: experimental formats and collaborative models within the Tiloissa concept that enable people to gather, move, and immerse themselves in alternative worlds through dance. Through the Tiloissa concept, she also works as a group leader and producer of the Välissä contemporary dance group, as well as a dancer. The group consists of eight professional dancers, with working groups varying by project.

Her educational background, including a Dance Teacher degree from Turku University of Applied Sciences (2019) and a Dancer's degree from Outokumpu Dance Education (2021), has provided her with a strong foundation in both pedagogy and performance. Her recent studies in contemporary dance and choreography (2024) have further refined her skills and enriched her practice.

Each phase of Jenni's career has shaped her, from her early passion for dance in childhood to her current focus on understanding the power of dance. By "power," she means its potential and effect, not its capitalistic interpretation.
